November 4, 2025 (Ottawa)—Today’s federal budget outlined ambitious plans to reduce government spending while making generational investments to strengthen Canada’s economy amid increasing global trade pressures. Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC) applauds the government’s commitment to enhancing Canada’s sovereignty and security, driving innovation in life sciences, and investing in biodefence.
“IMC and its members believe firmly that the life sciences sector must be an integral part of the country’s broader economic strategy, serving as a cornerstone of innovation, job creation, and health security,” said Dr. Bettina Hamelin, President & CEO of IMC. “We encourage the government to continue focusing on investments that will not only bolster the economy but also ensure Canadians have timely access to the latest medicines and vaccines. Sustained support for research, development, and domestic manufacturing is critical to maintaining Canada’s competitive advantage.”
While the government has recognized the need to reduce red tape and streamline regulatory processes that hinder the launch of new innovations in Canada, IMC calls for continued collaboration with industry to move this work forward. We also emphasize the importance of concrete government action to maintain a stable and reliable pharmaceutical supply chain. This will not only enable patients to access the medicines they need when they need them but also strengthen Canada’s resilience against global health and security threats. IMC and its members are committed to working closely with the government to advance these shared goals.
