Pharmacare

All Canadians should have access to the medicines they need, and most already have coverage through existing public and private drug plans. Why is Ottawa replacing coverage that works instead of focusing on filling the gaps?

One Size Does Not Fit All

97% of Canadians are already eligible for drug coverage.

Moving to a one-size-fits-all system could limit access for Canadians who rely on cutting-edge treatments and the broader range of medicines and therapies offered through private plans. While the Pharmacare Act presents an important opportunity to improve access and reduce gaps, its design will determine whether it strengthens coverage, or puts patients at risk of losing the options they depend on.

How Do We Safeguard Canadians’ Access to Innovative Medicines?

The Government of Canada must work closely with provinces and territories to ensure Canadians have access to coverage that reflects their specific needs. IMC encourages provincial governments to engage actively in negotiations so that pharmacare investments address real, unmet needs rather than duplicating existing services or reducing the coverage  Canadians currently rely on.
