Ontario Budget 2018-19: Innovative Medicines Canada commends commitments on improving drug access
Ottawa, March 28, 2018 – In response to the budget tabled by Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa, Innovative Medicines Canada welcomes the creation of the Ontario Drug and Dental Program and the expansion of OHIP+ to seniors.
“This is good news for Ontario’s patients. This initiative will help to close the gap for some of those Ontarians who don’t have coverage,” said Innovative Medicines Canada President Pamela Fralick. “We believe everyone should have fair, equitable and affordable access to the medicines they need, when they need them.”
While there is robust private and public drug coverage in Ontario, Innovative Medicines Canada shares the concern that some Ontarians are falling through the cracks because they have no coverage or insufficient coverage, to be able to pay for the medicines they need.
Innovative Medicines Canada is committed to further improve access to medicines for Ontarians, engage with government on finding solutions to Canada’s vulnerable populations, as well as provide predictability for the government and manufacturers.
